What is a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist?

by Caitilin Perez, RDN

March 9th is Registered Dietitian Nutritionist Day! We celebrate all the dietitians out there working hard to help improve the lives of others through nutrition! Whether creating a meal plan, counseling a client, or calculating tube feeding recommendations, we are passionate about the field of dietetics. To become a registered dietitian nutritionist (RDN or RD) the minimum of a bachelor’s degree in food, nutrition or dietetics is required, along with the completion of an accredited dietetic internship program and passing a national examination. Dietitians can become board certified in many areas such as: pediatric nutrition, sports nutrition, gerontological nutrition, nutrition support and renal nutrition.
